1.3.3 (b): describe the principles of operation of 3D scanners and describe how they are applied to real life scenarios

A 3D scanner scans a solid object and produces a 3D image of it.
They take a number of images to produce a digital 3D image.

The scanned images can be used in Computer Aided Design (CAD)

3D scanners use tomography, which means an object is scanned by the scanner taking multiple pictures (slices) of the object from different angles and pieces the slices together to form a 3D object.

This is done by using X-raus, radio waves, gamma rays or other methods.
